Breast & Chest Hair - Permanent Removal is Easier Than You Think!

Nipple hair—many of us have it - but for many it is also too embarrassing to ask about removing. So let's talk about it, normalize it and then make the decision whether you are ready and wanting to remove it permanently.

No matter the cause of breast and chest hair it is normal in both men and women. If they bother you and you are tired of shaving, trimming and tweezing them, consider a simply alternative - either Electrolysis or Laser.

For women with nipple and chest hair, it is our experience, that this hormonally driven area is highly suspectable to increased growth when you tweeze or wax this area.

Is it Safe to Permanently Remove Breast Hair?

Yes, it’s generally safe to remove nipple hair just like other body hair.

Which Method is Better for Permanent Removal of Breast/Chest Hair?
Both are excellent choices but if you have only a few hair - under 30 - then Electrolysis is probably the most cost effective method. If you have light, white or red hairs then Electrolysis is your only choice as lasers don't effectively remove these colours. If you are prone to ingrown hairs or a lot of skin irritation if you shave the area then laser would not be your best choice as you need to shave the area prior to each treatment.
Can I have Electrolysis or Laser in the area if I am pregnant or nursing?
No, you must wait until you have stopped nursing and you are no longer pregnant.
Can I have Permanent Hair Removal while I am on gender affirming hormone therapy?

Any hormonal changes can stimulate increased hair regrowth. While our Permanent Hair Removal methods remove existing hair, excess male hormones (i.e. testosterone) have been known to stimulate faster regrowth. In other words, individuals receiving gender affirming hormone therapy may eventually see more regrowth than those who are not and require more treatments. For transfeminine people, using estrogen as a method of hormone replacement therapy can slow down hair growth on the face and body, but it will not completely eliminate hair follicles that already produce hair in those areas. We are here to help during this important time in your life.

Can I have laser or electrolysis if I have breast or chest implants?

Yes, either method is safe to do with breast or chest augmentation surgery.

For men that want a smooth, hair free chest, what is the best method?

It depends on hair colour. If the hair is dark (not blonde, white or red) then laser would be the quickest, most cost effective method to start with.

How many treatments would I need?

That would depend on the amount of hair you have and if you have a hormonal imbalance that is triggering continued new growth. Book a Permanent Hair Removal Consultation with one of our specialists for a proper assessment.

What Causes of Breast Hair in Women?

Significant hormonal changes and fluctuations in your body can affect hair growth, including hair growth around your nipples. Big hormonal changes include things like puberty, pregnancy, and menopause—though many women also experience subtle hormonal changes in their 20s and 30s. Most people experience at least 1 or 2 hormonal imbalances in their lifetime, so don’t be alarmed if it happens to you. Alternatively, if your body overproduces male hormones (like testosterone), that may also be a source of unexpected nipple hair growth. If you’re concerned that your hormones may be out of balance, talk to your doctor. They can test your hormone levels with a simple blood test and figure out if that’s the cause of your body's hair growth.

Certain medications have been linked to excessive hair growth. Therefore, if you’re taking a medication, that may actually be the causing nipple hair growth. However, don’t stop taking your medication all of a sudden, even if that’s the case. If you’re concerned, speak to your doctor. Medications linked to hirsutism include:
  • Hair growth treatments like minoxidil
  • Corticosteroids and anabolic steroids
  • Interferon
  • Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), including tamoxifen
  • Seizure medicines like phenytoin (which is in Phenytek and Dilantin)
  • Immunosuppressants like cyclosporine (which is in medicines like Gengraf, Neoral, and Sandimmune).
this is a condition caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. Roughly 1 in 10 women of childbearing age have this condition, and its side effects include infertility, irregular menstrual periods, ovarian cysts, and excess hair in areas where it’s more common for hair to develop in males (including the area around the nipples).
If you suspect you may have PCOS, the best thing to do is visit a doctor or gynecologist to confirm this. Don’t panic: it’s very common, and while there’s no cure, it can be treated by your doctor.

thisis caused by excessive cortisol levels (a type of hormone) for a long time. Cortisol is called the “stress hormone” because it helps your body respond to stress—and if you overuse steroid drugs that trigger cortisol production or your body overproduces it, it’s possible to develop Cushing’s syndrome, which has several similar symptoms to PCOS (including hair growth).
  • Common symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome include weight gain in the face and body (with thin arms and legs), a fatty lump between the shoulders, pink or purple stretch marks, and thin, frail skin that bruises easily.
  • Like PCOS, Cushing’s syndrome is very common and treatable by a medical professional. If you suspect that you may have it, talk to your doctor so they can confirm and, if necessary, put together a treatment plan.

No matter why you might want or need to remove your breast or chest hair permanently, we are here to get the job done for you!
